IBAN stands for International Bank Account Number and is a standardised, internationally recognised format for account numbers that consists of 15 to 34 characters (letters and numbers). The IBAN is specific to a country, bank and person and starts with two letters followed by numbers. When sending money to certain countries, we will need the IBAN instead of an account number (that just contains numbers).
